Touring's acclaimed Theatre of Debate production The
Gift ,aimed primarily at 15-19 year-olds, has been
adapted for television (originally shown on the BBC)
and is now available for purchase in DVD and VHS format.
"Works like the Gift which raise key ethical questions without giving
glib answers are important in preparing us for the future.’
Robin McKie, The Observer
The Gift tells the story of one family’s struggle
and eventual victory over an inherited terminal genetic
disease in an entertaining and deeply moving way.
The drama and the debate (a special version for television
is included) are a superb resource for both engaging
with and exploring the ethical dilemmas posed by genetic
testing and embryo selection in the reduction of inherited
disease as well as examining how far parents should
be allowed to go in choosing the characteristics of
their children, if and when that becomes possible.
The Gift succeeds in making genetics understandable
while never underestimating the knotty moral and
emotional issues surrounding testing,screening
and therapy.”
Lyn Gardner The Guardian
