The
Women’s Sports Foundation (WSF) is a campaigning
charity, that has been working on behalf of all women
in the UK for the past 23 years to break down the barriers
that are preventing women and girls from engaging fully
in sport and physical activity. With a new Chief Executive
and a bigger, and largely new, staff team, the organisation
is looking to the future with renewed ambition and
focus.
Our long-term goal is clear: by 2015 we want to achieve
a step change in women’s and girls’ involvement
in sport and other physical activities. By the age
of 7, most girls believe that they are not ‘sporty’,
40% have dropped out of physical activity by the age
of 18, and nearly half of all women do little or no
activity at all.
We want to change that. Our aim is to increase the
health, fitness and well-being of women and girls by
making physical activity an integral part of their
lives.
We aim to do this by campaigning to:
- Make sport equally appealing to women and girls.
- Make regular exercise compelling to women and girls.
- Make fit and healthy women and girls social and
cultural role models.
We will use:
- comprehensive and definitive research to provide
insight and innovative solutions and establish undisputed
expertise;
- national marketing, PR and lobbying to promote
the issues and innovative solutions; and
- a partnership-oriented approach to work with and
connect those organisations with shared goals
