Full Time Characters

By Rachel Wagstaff

Ryan

played by Craig Roberts, (autumn 2008 tour)

17, from South London, always wanted to be a footballer. Supported United since he was old enough to kick a ball. During the play, Ryan is forced to confront his own place within the world; should he pursue his lifelong dream, no matter what the cost?

Sabina

played by Stephanie Jade Lynch, (autumn 2008 tour)

15, born in Croydon, now lives in Peckham, feels unfit and unsporty next to her brother Omar. Kind, strong-minded, torn between her religious mother and the urge to fit in with her secular friends.

Omar

played by Omar Kapre, (autumn 2008 tour)

18, from North London; at college studying history. Intelligent; softly-spoken, but strong-minded and exceptionally strong in himself. Brother to Sabina, Man City fan.

Jez/Steve

played by Craig Heyworth, (autumn 2008 tour)

Jez:
17 year old guy who dreams of being a footballer. From a difficult family background, Jez is prone to outbursts and is riddled with anger, fear and prejudices. Also capable of real affection and tenderness, Jez struggles to deal with the adult world, and is much happier helping out his seven year old sister. Jez cannot accept difference in other people, and hates feeling lesser than anyone else. Deep down, of course, all the wants is to fit in and to make it.

Steve:
38 year old man, Steve had his son, Ryan, with his childhood sweetheart Carol. Intelligent, argumentative, but full of love for his family, Steve was devastated by the early death of his wife. Carol died 11 years ago in a car crash, and Steve has had to bring up his son Ryan alone ever since. Steve has handled the death and responsibility of being sole parent badly, and sometimes retreats into himself, meaning Ryan often has to take care of him, rather than vice versa. Full of passion and conviction, Steve wants to see a better world, but feels ill-equipped to contribute to it, drifting from unfulfilling job to job.
