Pandemic
Science/Theatre Summer School
20th July - 31st July 2009
Swine Flu, Bird Flu, SARS. Global pandemic. Mass panic. Death. The race is on to find a cure, but with stocks of medicine running low who do we save? Time to act fast, the future of the human race depends on you...
Debating some of the complex scientific and ethical issues surrounding our handling of pandemic disease the workshops will investigate the future of disease prevention by creating a performance that explores a world where global pandemic has struck.
Work together to design, direct and perform a brand new piece of theatre. Debate some of the complex scientific and ethical issues surrounding our handling of pandemic disease, consult a panel of experts and participate in lots of practical workshops and energetic debates.
You don't need to be an expert performer or an experienced scientist to take part. Whatever your interests this will be an ideal way to kick off the summer in a lively, imaginative and inspiring way.
This science/theatre summer school is designed to challenge 12-15 year-olds who have an interest in performance or science. The two week project will include sessions with scientists, a research trip to the Wellcome Collection and a series of lively workshops all exploring the theme of pandemic disease.
At the end of the two weeks participants will perform a brand new piece of theatre based on their work.
The project runs on weekdays only between 20th - 31st July from 10am to 4pm with a 6.30pm performance to an invited audience on Friday 31st July. The price of the summer school is £100 per participant.
